New Mogwai.
A little too much true to themselves, could be felt as a sort of little homework. But basically is a decent themself, like when you order tiramisù at a restaurant: you obviously hope it’s the best ever, but if in the end it’s just as good as usual, you’ll be quite satisfied.
The new album of post-rock legends does not surprise with anything. It’s very conservative. It sounds like most Mogwai’s albums, therefore like most albums in the genre. Despite its predictability, it has its moments and sometimes it sounds really good, even cinematic. No surprise there too, given Mogwai’s attitude towards recording soundtracks for movies.
Mogwai’s As the Love Continues is pretty nice in the end, but there is no fireworks. Actually were it not the 62.367th album of Mogwai’s discography it would be more appreciated, but it is not wasted time, and it grows with the listen.
